Do dry ferts expire?

866 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  zainey_04
I have dry ferts from my last go at planted tanks about 5 years ago. I'm back in the addiction and still have the dry ferts from 2011. They were sorted is sealed mason jars. Anyone know of they're still usable?

Reusable :
Kno3
Kh2po4
K2so4
Gh booster

Not sure
Micro
Iron

As long as they were not exposed to direct heat, sunlight, moisture etc they should be reusable. Most chemical we use are quite stable. Some chemical such as kh2po4 and kno3 decompose if expose to heat above 400 degree Celsius. Radiation from sunlight might cause some reaction. Not sure about iron and micro though. Ferrous may be oxidised to ferric?? Need to do some extensive study about their stability . Maybe someone can give more detail.

Thanks for the reply and helpful info. Everything was stored in a cool dry place away from any direct or indirect sunlight.
