I see many people use osmocotye plus

can you use osmocotye flower and vegetable instead?

Can you add plantex or other DIY ferts to caplsules?

if so how do you know how much to put into each one?

thanks

I'm sure you could use the CSM+B, the only problem that I can see is it won't be "slow" release. The Osmocote Veg and Flower is kind of similar, but the concentrations are different.

I couldn't find any Osmocote Plus around here either. I even called Scotts and had them run the UPC number to see if any retailers had ordered it in the last 6 months.... Nothing!

I ended up ordering some online. If you look around, you can find some with reasonable shipping charges. I got some cheap gel caps from Ebay and made my own. They work really good, and you know their "safe" since everyone and their dog is using them.

Good luck!

The little spheres that contain the chemical fertilizer salts used manufacturing any Osmocote product will not dissolve entirely in the aquarium. Once added to the substrate eventually you will look into the tank and wonder what those 'eggs' drifting around on top of the substrate are. Many don't mind that or the cost savings warrants ignoring it later. I found it an unwelcome surprise.

Here's a true DIY option:

If you're keeping sensitive critters, Osmocote Plus Gelcaps = not the way to go. You'll find increased nitrate in your water column and often won't be able to figure out what's causing parameter shifts if you're new to ferts.

I use Osmocote in tanks with fish like Endlers and Guppies that are hardy. For everything else, making your own from clay and dry ferts is the way to go.

With clay you can as few or as many as you want at a time. Have a plant with specific fert needs? Make a dozen little clay balls just for that plant.
