I've been using a pollen glass but decided to build a reactor so I can get one more piece of equipment out of the tank. I copied the one built by DiabloCanine in this post ( http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/30908-drilling-my-55-a.html ) . After getting it hooked up there's the very noticeable sound of water running through it. Is this normal or should the reactor be completely filled with water and quiet?

It should be filled with water and quiet, what causes the noise is air trap which in most cases can be fixed by turning the reactor up side down to get rid of the air, some reactor designs have an air nipple/outlet on top to bleed the air.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the answer. The outlet at the top to bleed off some air sounds interesting. I guess I'll be stopping by Lowe's tomorrow afternoon to see what I can use for that.

If you built it the same way as mine, the air will work itself out in a few days......DC

Alright, the reactor has been burped and is nice and quiet now. Now I'm interested to see how well it will do compared to the pollen glass.
