what would be the best recipe for the co2? some sites say 1 teaspoon yeast to 6 cups of water. there are no two same recipes. some even call for gelatin. what would be the best recipe?

i have anarchis, three large anubas plants, 5 sagitaris plants from 6 inches tall to 1 inch, i have five crypt wenditi? i think that is the spelling and three large banana plants.

I don't think there is a "best" recipe for the co2. Its just a matter of what you prefer to deal with. I am trying the jello method. I read that one should chop the jello into small pieces to give the yeast more surface area to work with. I'm finding a problem with that. The jello itself is liquefying over time. So its not such an easy task to dump the alcohol/water and put in fresh. If you let the jello solidify in the bottle and put the yeast/water liquid on top, it would be easier to pour it off and replace it as time goes on. The upside with plain yeast, water and sugar is its easy to replace. The downside is you have to replace the whole mixture every time.

i used to use 2 cups of sugar in a 2l iter soda bottle to one teaspoon of yeast. fill it up to where the bottle starts to bend up at the top

as far as a drop checker is concerned. you cant adjust your bubbles per second anyway. so why bother

absolutely not. if you try to regulate it you will be cleaning your diy mixture off of your walls and everything else in the room. you cant allow pressure to build up.

The "recipe" doesn't really matter at all.

If you put in too much sugar it won't matter because the yeast will die from high levels of alcohol far before it ever uses up the sugar.

And if you don't put in "enough" yeast it doesn't matter because the yeast can multiply so fast that even a tiny pinch of yeast will be more enough after a day or 2.


Put in some sugar, put in some water and put in some yeast. If you want to measure it to feel better then go right ahead. :biggrin:

But I used to us 2 cups of sugar and about a 1/2 tsp of yeast. Adding more of either won't matter.

I'm guessing that's going to be your bubble counter. Not a "generator".

Most people use a 2 liter soda bottle for the actual DIY CO2 generator.

my generator bottle is still being made as well as the second smaller bottle that is needed to go with it. they still have soda in the both of them so i have not completed those parts of the build yet.
