For any fresh water tank in general you will need the following:

tank
hood or cover (optional, but fish do jump so it's best in my opinion)
filter and filter media
light source (again optional if you don't want plants)
heater (for tropical fish)
thermometer
substrate of some sort (optional but recommended for most fish)
decor, caves, etc.
