Distilled vs RO water

1168 6
I have several shrimp tanks, two of them primarily Crystal red and black shrimp.

I've been using store bought RO water since I first set up these tanks, but suddenly the store has switched over to distilled.

Is distilled water safe to use in shrimp tanks?

If I wasn't an apartment dweller I'd install my own RO filtration system...

Thanks!

Distilled is more pure than RO.
More pure in what way?

I would say they are approximately equal, maybe with the exception that distilled water no longer has dissolved gasses in it due to the boiling process.

Distilled cannot have any impurities, as they heat water up, collect the steam in another container and gets turned back to water. Pretty easy to understand, hard to make it. With RO sometimes impurities could get through if filters are old.

So yes, distilled is safe and can be more pure than RO

I recall reading RO water has sodium based softening agents that leach from resin.
I would imagine that is only the case if it is a combination RO membrane with water softener.

Thanks for the info, all. Looks like I'll be switching to distilled!
