Even though I want to do a planted tank, I've seen some really cool dimmed "night" lights when the plant lights are off. (I'm thinking of the big clear kahuna thread) What kind of lights are these?
Moonlights. Usually they are single watt (sometimes less) LED's in either blue or white. There are several manufacturers that make them. I had a coralife one for a while I was rather fond of.
Do those moonlights do anything or are they more for looks? I know I see it used a lot on saltwater stuff... any benefits to them for us planted folk??

in SW coral tanks yes. In FW they are just for looks.
The noctournal fish do appreciate it tho.
