I have a pair in a community tank that lay eggs every now and then but they always end up eating them. I had angles in another tank that did the same thing. I am not sure if it is because there are other fish in the tank or if that is just what they are going to do.
Usually mine do it just after a water change so I do not know what would happen if the eggs are out of the water but I do not think they should be if you want to try to get them to hatch.
