Noticed this post on their Facebook page showing a glass desk nano for a betta.

No heater, and when someone commented that the daily water changes would be a pain, Wet Pets replied that half water change once a week was enough! It probably holds a gallon or less.

I would hope that a local fish store might give more accurate information on proper betta care, but it looks like Wet Pets is either uneducated about bettas or just cares about making the sale.

There is a huge difference between "surviving" and "thriving"

Humans can survive in a 6x6 cell, but most of us live in a 2,000 sqft house with a large backyard and still go to the gym.

No fish "thrives" in a gallon of water.

I bought my male betta from a tank about the cubic size of your index finger's length...half filled with tea brown water...
They were very proud of the fact that they never change the water.

now hes defending it by posting an articular that kinda supports what he is doing
Two things - the article allows that a smaller sized tank can be "good enough" as long as it is diligently maintained, which is not the case for once a week water change in a tiny container where there is no filter or live plants. (The bamboo doesn't count.) Also, size is the only thing it discusses - it doesn't mention the other aspects of proper betta care, such as water temperature.

As Hooked on fish says, there is a difference between thriving and surviving. Wet Pets countered with a statement that
They live very well in a small tank because they are not swimmers, they generally stay pretty still in the tank. They do well at room temperature[...]"
My bettas would have sat pretty still too in a cold and barren bowl.

It seems it's a matter of them not fully educating themselves. I understand that bettas are just a small part of their larger operation, but I had hoped for better from a LFS.
