I love aquatic plants and eventually would like to try a dirted aquarium to try to improve growth and rooting, however, I was wondering how much of an impact dirt has on things like the PH and TDS? I've researched the basics of setting up a dirted aquarium, but I never see much information on those factors. I assume it may vary based on the actual soil used? Or would I be wrong? I would definitely need to do more research before trying it myself.

The dirt I saw recommended in one guide is FoxFarm Potting Soil, if that offers any idea.

If you're interested in dirted tank then i highly recommend Ecology of the Planted Aquarium by Diana Walastad. great book on dirted tanks and more than enough information than you'd like to know. Great place to start to get a good solid understanding.
