Hi guys! I just want to share my outdoor tank. It's been more than a moth since setup and to save electricity I have placed this under direct sunlight from sunrise to sunset. I only have a medium sized sponge filter and seldom do water changes. Maybe just once every week and sometimes once in two weeks. I still don't have algae problems because of my faithful shrimps and nerite snails.

What is that tree looking plant it looks awesome.
Your snails have enough algae so they dont mind nibbling on plants.
Your tank is beautiful! I really appreciate it!

sunlight provides UV light to an extent, i believe this affects algae growth to an extent
i had a bucket full of a basket ball sized crypt that was melting releasing ammonia and nutrients in the water, one stem of glandulosa grew for 7 days like that in the bucket just floating. grew great and no algae was ever present

Be careful with a sun tank. I have one but not for more than a few hour of sun.

It can get out of hand pretty quickly like algae can take over if one little thing was ignore like you ran out of co2 or forgot to dose nutrients. It's best if you can filter the sun with a canopy or a big umbrella.

Thank you for the advice mistergreen! Will keep you posted here at The Planted Tank. I've been keeping aquariums on this same spot. The tank before this was a plantless tank where I keep my nerite snails and wild shrimps for several months withou water chages. I only added water on it when the sun evaporated 1/3rd of the tank water after 2months but did not do waterchange. Like this tank that previous tank never had algae because of my algae busters: nerites and shrimps. :) Will post more photos in the weeks and months and hopefully years to come, hopefully. :)

Full sun tanks are the best. The growth and color is unreal.

Freshman year at uni I had one with a south window and full sun every day. The colors produced where amazing.

When I did a 90% trim the algae that resulted was equally as amazing:icon_lol:

Playing with fire is fun ;)

You look to be doing it well.

Thanks Andrew! Will show photos of algae the moment they appear on this tank. :)

I'm surprised you haven't gotten green water yet. I'm growing some emersed plants outside and had green water on the second day. It doesn't bother me or the plants since their leaves are out of the water.

I'm saving on the light bill too. The plants are growing like weeds.
