So they were labeled as Crypt lutea, and when I planted them a year ago, thats what they looked like. A few months ago, I broke up one of the bigger plants and replanted some portions. They are growing now , but they look like a completely different crypt. It doesn’t bother me but I was just wondering how that is. The brownish crypt is the new growth and the much greener one is what they looked like when I got them.

The browner stem that has a varrigated look is completely new growth that emerged from the substrate. I am not sure if I made that clear.

I've got something like that. Usually the difference in form and color is if you also increased the light? Green leaves will turn the mottled.
Can't really explain why dividing it affected it other than,it was sort of root bound and you invigorated it by dividing. Does things like that to land plants too.
