Hi folks,

Tank is 4 months old and getting a bloom of the brown diatoms - I know it's diatoms because it feels grainy and comes out easily from glass and ornaments.

Nitrates level are low, but phosphates are a bit on the higher end, so I'm using some Seachem Phosgard to bring the level down. I'm doing frequent water changes as well.

Question: Would the diatoms eventually disappear from the rocks/substrate on its own, or do I need to pull all the rocks out and clean manually?

Thank you

Your best defense against algae growth is vigorous, healthy plant growth. My tanks have little to no visible algae.

What do you have planted, and how are they doing? I'd get rid of the phosguard, as plants need phosphate to grow.
