I have a few clumps of DHG in my tank. it has been a while, but I am not seeing it spreads.. it just grows a bit. how do they spread? via rhizome underground? or do i need to buy enough to cover the whole area?

If you have enough nutritious substrate and some Co2 you should see them sending out runners within a few months. They can take awhile to carpet if you plant them randomly and up to 6 months of you plant them fairly tight. Patience goes a long way.

It definitely doesn't take 6 months to get this stuff to carpet. In good lighting and moderate CO2 (I used yeast in my 20g for this) you can get a thick carpet in just under 2 months. I covered the entire floor my 20g on 3 pots of the stuff.

DHG is one of those plants that will spread uncontrollably in a good substrate, CO2, and ferts. Once it takes off it's next to impossible to keep contained.

OP, what substrate are you using?
