Dead skin on fish?

512 Views 6 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  HUNTER
I found my big female guppy on the carpet and was very stiff but once I soaked her in water she revived. I put her in the tank and she ate a bit, but this morning she's acting sick and not eating, her skin and part of of tail are scratched up pretty bad. She swimming but my cherry shrimps keep riding her and trying to eat the bruised skin. Is this harmful for the fish or will it help it heal faster? thanks

I wouldn't let them do that... It probably opens her up to infection. Poor fish! I'd suggest you put her in a mesh hatchery with a piece of plant so she can have some privacy and so she can't hide from you very well.
Poor guppy... I'm glad you found her!
It's too late, I found at least 7 shrimps on her and she was belly up. I know, I like her so much, she had just given birth a month ago. She was always excited asking for food, must've swam up too far and gone overboard.
Poor little thing.
You may want to put a lid on the tank to prevent that...

It's rimless tank and the driftwoods extend out of the tank. I found one of my rasboras dried up on the carpet. I also lose lots of cherry shrimps jumping off, bad aquarium set up on my part.
Perhaps you could plant the tank heavily with floaters? That might help.
Yeah I think floater are a good idea. If I don't do that I'm sure few of my 20 juvie guppies will take the leap, they get excited for food. I'll get a few frogbit or something similar, thanks for the suggestion.
