Hi guys I know this is probably a shot in the dark and could be many things but earlier on today I done a 20%-25% water change as I usually do but I have just found one of my platys floating round after scooping him out I could see his was very white in color and smelt terrible he couldn't of been dead for more then a hour or so I noticed a little of his tail was missing but the other fish were trying to have a nibble on him so maybe that's where that has gone I've done a water test and my parameters seem good just wondering if any of you guys had similar experiences? :/

Not much help that I can give you. I can say that fish has been dead for much longer than an hour at that point. The eyes would be clear and there would be no odor after just an hour.

That fish has been dead at least a day, possibly more.

Yeah as mentioned, the fish has been dead for much longer than an hour.

The shredded fins can very possibly be from other fish picking at it's corpse.

Hard to identify the cause of death without symptoms. Inspect your other fish for any signs of illness.

How long have you had this platy?
Is it new to your tank, picked on by other fish, who knows.

Occasionally if noticed I loose a fish.
Never a crash or a fallout though.
Lost a huge molly once, thought to be a jumper maybe.
Two weeks later I moved a huge java fern mat and there was the skeleton.
Must have been an Amano shrimp smorgasbord.

How long have you had the fish? They only live 2 to 5 years from what I have read.
