I'm preparing a tank and have successfully fishless cycled a tank. Then on another setup decided to have a planted tank so I finally figured out how to get the pH, GH, and KH where I want them on that setup. Now, I want to copy what I've learned to a 10 gallon. So I need to both cycle and change alkalinity/hardness on the next one.

Should I cycle the tank first and get it bacteriologically balanced or should I steady the '3 H's' first?

I think the three H's first so the aerobic bacteria colony will be happy with the water chemistry.
