Tl; dr- Cyano runs on a circadian (cyclical) clock for photosynthesis and nitrogen fixing. Scientists have successfully disrupted this cycle and have successfully proven that this will kill it... Perhaps changing the on/ off times drastically could work for aquarists with cyano issues?

Cyano from my experience does react fast to reduction of light hours and a lower water temperature all other things being equal.
THIS sounds like the Waldstat hours would be another method. That thing where she says give your tank a mid day siesta from light boosts faster plant growth. Only for the cyano its reverse..

It is a very similar concept. Almost makes me want to cultivate cyano in a bucket lol it is almost summer after all😂
