I will be receiving a few crypts in trade, locally, and my buddy had a new crypt that baffled me.

Cryptocoryne Undulata 'Purple'

I tried googling up the 'purple' species, but looks like no one has posted anything of it. He tells me it was from a friend in Portland & they were taking down tanks and gave this plant and a few other crypt. species to him.

From looking at the picture he sent, only one of the leaves look purple-like.
My C. Undulatas only shoot 'Green' like leaves. Unsure if the color of the leaves are due to the condition its grown under.

Could this be a 'purple' of this species? or is it another mislabeled crypt?

I know its tough not seeing it flower up, but let me know what you guys think it could be!

I think this is just regular C. undulata. The color of the leaves can vary depending on emersed vs. immersed growth, lighting levels, and other growing conditions. I have a ton of these, so while I didn't take a super long look at your pictures, I can assure you that it is highly likely these are indeed C. undulata. If you'd be interested in doing some sort of trade, perhaps I could compare it to my C. undulata, (I have oodles of them!), what conditions do you keep these in?

thats what I first thought.. I finally got the plants through trade.
I also have tons of c. undulata growing immersed and comparing this so called c. undulate 'purple', the looks quite different..

The story behind this plant is a guy shut down his plant operation and sold some crypts to my buddie (who i got this from), he said that he specifically ordered this plant in the 90's from someone in Asia and it was labeled as C. Undulata 'Purple'...

My buddie still has the mother plant, as he gave me one of the daughters.. im not a 100% believer that it is the 'purple', but only time will tell..
