CRS question

Hey guys, I'm real sorry for asking this, as I'm sure you've probably seen questions like this a thousand times, but I had a few questions...

So I have a planted tank which has been established for about 6 months or so.

The specs are:

60P tank
150 watt metal halide (i know it's a lot, but I have it hanging and it's working out with no ill effects)
Pressurized CO2
Fluval 205
Aquasoil Amazonia II
moderately planted
temp 78-81
Daily 1 squirt of PFertz NPKM
Weekly 40% water changes
No feeding (aside from an algae wafer from time to time)

Tank inhabitants:

lots of rcs
3 otos

I tried CRS, but they all died off slowly.
I haven't checked my water params (I know I should, and maybe my question can't be answered without them), but the rcs and ottos are doing fine. rcs has been breeding like crazy.
I didnt properly acclimate them, I just floated the bag in the tank, then threw them into the tank.

But they lived for a week or so, and slowly started dying off.

Question is, do you think it's something with my water params?
Or is it that I didn't properly acclimate them?
Since they lived for a week or so (one by one they started dying), I wasn't sure if acclimation could be a problem.

Thanks!

what were the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings for the tank at the time of CRS owner ship?
also I hear they like acidic water and cooler tank temps. lets see what CRS owners say : )
You need to know what your water parameters are, there is no telling without these tests. RSC are much hardier than CRS.
It probably was improper acclimation, If I had to guess.
Thanks!

Yea, that's what i thought, I guess I'll go start testing for water today.

But is it possible that their deaths were due to improper acclimation even though they died off during a span of a week?

I'm pretty sure my water params SHOULD be fine.
I dont have anything in their making waste, do weekly water changes, have aquasoil and CO2 so PH levels should be fine. But again, I guess I'll find out for sure once I test.
I had this issue with the first batch of CRS i bought. Did you have the CRS shipped to you?
need water paramaters.
but as an fyi drip acclimation helps a lot.
Your tank water is too warm for CRS. They like it a lot cooler, 68-70. RCS will do fine at those temp though.
I have had my CRS tanks temp get into the upper 80's almost 90 during a 2 day power loss,
and never lost any. I keep mine between 70 and 75 and they breed like rabbits.
they will survive in higher temps but not breed or show good colors.
CRS just dont breed well at all in higher temps but the adults will survive. You really need to check your PH GH and KH. I would not worry about nitrite or ammonia since the otos and rcs are doing good. But rcs will survive and do fine in a bucket of water outside.
The issue with mine was a rough ride in shipping and my acclimation. Do a drip type and take your time with it. And mine died off the same way it was over about a week or so i had a new dead one everyday. Now that i adjusted my acclimation they do great. Im prob a horrible keeper of CRS/CBS i checked my water to make sure my tank was cycled and havent checked it since about 3 months. And they breed a lot too.

I have never checked anything on my shrimp tanks but TDS. All that entails is dipping in the probe and pushing a button.
