That's amazing... if I had to change one thing though, I'd somehow balance the left pointing branches with something on the left side. Otherwise I'd feel like it's pointing with nothing to catch the eye where it's pointing. If you know what I mean? I'm not sure how I'd fix that, maybe with a rock or something.

I wish the 'root' on the left was wrapped around a rock and it doesn't seem right to have the second largest rock all the way to the right.

Love the angle of that amazing wood, this is going to be really nice.

Thank you all for the suggestions and comments. I will take them into consideration when I mess with the scape some more tomorrow.

Looks good. Here are a couple thoughts.

On a tank that's 24" tall and 18" wide, I think the biggest challenge comes in the form of conveying depth. The wood is the obvious focal point. What happens when you flip it 180 degrees?

When I look at scapes put together by the masters of depth (Dave Chow and Cliff Hui, IMO), there are a few trends that stick out.


- Dramatically sloping substrates. Most of the time we have 3"-6" slopes in our tanks, but they go much further.

- Use of many, smaller hardscape stones instead of or in addition to larger stones.

- Larger features go in front to give the illusion of infinite depth. Not sure how well that works with a black background, though.

The only thing I might add would be smaller rocks between the gaps in the larger stones.
other than that I think it looks really good!

The wood is really nice. But I am really liking those rocks. Rounded but still with an edge.

The rock on the far right looks out of place. maybe swap it with the left one that is under the root piece on the substrate then put that one to the far left...

I think it sucks. And since I am such a nice guy, you can send that wood to me so you will never be tempted to ruin another tank with it again. Heck, I'll even pay the shipping.

Ok...you got me...I think it is going to look awesome. That center piece is fantastic. I spent several hours the other day walking up and down a couple local creeks looking for something like that...no luck

Can't wait to see this take shape.

I am loving that driftwood. The only thing I would do is add some smaller rocks to balance out those large ones and then start buying plants!!

I'm not 100% happy with it, but i think it'll look a lot better once it's all planted.
I tried to take a lot of your suggestions into consideration but it was hard!

I still think the rock on the far right needs to be moved. A grouping of Anubis/ bolbitis around the rocks would be a great accent.

i agee with craig. i also thing that if possible, move the lowest stick/branch in closer to the main tree. just move it right

i would add more sloping too, seems as if the water evened out your slopes

I'll try moving that rock when I get home this evening, but that's really not the look I'm going for.

And I added a whole 9L bag of new Amazonia before I filled it. I don't think I'll be able to slope it any more.

if its not the look your going for. then by all means, dont move it! what really matters is if you like it. your the one who will have to stare and throw money into it.
