I set up my newly purchased Seaclear 40 gallon tank today. After setting up everything for my 7 little shubunkins, I noticed some water on the floor and, voila, found a 1.5 inch crack at the left corner near the top.

I took out some water so that the water level would be well below the crack and applied silicone sealant. As luck would have it, I sold my old 20 gallon aquarium today before finding the crack! I have another 40 gallon cichlid tank but it would be foolish to put my shubunkins there.

It'll take 2 weeks for me to receive a replacement. Is it OK to use the cracked tank as long as water doesn't reach it? As a temporary fix, is there a better way than to use silicone sealant? Should I just empty the cracked tank and put my fish in a big rubbermaid container? Advice would be greatly appreciated!
