CPOs! The possible solution to algae

825 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  MABJ
Wow! Only 24 hours after getting into my tank, my CPOs have cleared the stones of leftover hair algae and BBA...

I had no clue they would do this..

To explain how I know it was them:
I have several spots in my gravel where the two algae thrive, and I noticed my female CPO standing over them, she would lower her upper half close to the gravel, then pull up really hard. Rinse, repeat, and the male caught on too.

This is kind of interesting.

Hmm.. Interesting that's good to know to those people that always get the random algae blooms like I do, What do you keep them with?
I only just accidentally got them.

Theyre temporarily housed together with 4 high grade cherries.

Theyve only moved the cherries around thus far.

I'm going to keep one in my 2g Fluval spec, one in a 2.5g long tank, and if I get babies, I'm going to raise them in a .5g moss carpeted tank.

Well for an unexpected package, these guys were a great surprise.

CPO's?
Dwarf mexican crayfish! Lol sorry. Should have mentioned that somewhere.

I don't actually think they're Mexican.. I just think the original species was similar to a Mexican species, they cultivated this in northern europe as I understand it.

They grow to about an inch and a half each, they're cute as hell and they mostly leave plants alone. Theyll eat and finish off dying plants though.

They've left my shrimp alone where they could have eaten them thus far.

I sorta wanna stick some of these in my 3g...my roommate had one in a bowl and it was pretty entertaining to watch it.
The males stay smaller but the females are tamer. They're reallllly cool.

Let me post a pic.
