You can probably put as many as 6 in there. They're more comfortable in a group. Plus they're tiny.

I too would put at least six in there, it will look much better than just a few. Will the tank have plants, and do you have adequate filtration?

I'd say go for 6 or so. They are very small fish and like to be in a group, and a well planted 5 would be sufficient for them.

I would try a hang on back filter, unless you want to try a small external filter like the zoomed 501 or some variant. With the 501, you'll be set for quite a bit of live stock.

Ditto on the ZooMed. I run a 501 on my tank in the signature, heavily planted with 6 CPD's, three ghost shrimp and a nerite snail..the tank has been in service since April with no issues.
