Replace the thick black mesh with a thinner, clear mesh. It should let a lot more light in. :thumbsup:
Could this be a disaster waiting to happen?
I have two full grown angelfish in my 85 gallon. I would like to keep the plastic mesh covers off, to let more light in, but they get scared pretty easily and will dart away and make a splash. Could they possibly jump out if they get startled?

I have 3 angels in a 46.
There is not a full cover on the top,
only a glass that protects the CFL bulb.
The angels do not jump.
Sounds like you've had them awhile. Why are they still spooky?
I can almost pet mine.
