Cory Paleatus Biotope?

2686 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Summerland_Aquatics
Has anyone ever created a biotope for peppered cories? I'm trying to do one for my biology class.
I'm looking into stocking/hardscape ideas. I figure Serpae tetras are a good for the main schooling fish, but other than that, I'm open to suggestions
The tank is around 50 gallons btw

I might consider sand substrate, smooth river pebbles, driftwood, leaf litter for cory's.
Temps around 75 degrees F with moderate movement of the water.
Could attach some larger anubia to the driftwood and call it a day.
Corydoras paleatus (Pepper Cory) ? Seriously Fish

This^^ should give a tad bit of information. Unfortunately, seriouslyfish profiles are a bit hit or miss when it comes to biotope information; this http://www.panamjas.org/pdf_artigos/PANAMJAS_8(4)_347-351.pdf

Gives a lot more info, of special note is the Brazilian eartheater (Geophagus brasiliensis) and the Hyphessobrycon tetras.

I agree with the sand and driftwood, but plants are very very rare when it comes to Corydoras habitats. Anubias is also native to Africa as well...Temperature is also another factor, as paleatus is more of a cool water than tropical fish.

Only mentioned the anubia as aesthetic consideration if it were me/mine.
Planted tank forum and all.
Yep, river sand and some leaves to hide under. You won't like a perfect biotope for them as they tend to live in the dusty mulm and detritus in the rivers.

Sand, smooth river rock, and driftwood are a definite part of the hardscape, as well as a high possibility of leaf litter. Plantwise, i'm looking at both surface and riparium plants.
