coralife 24" recommendation for low light tank

hi,
i've mentioned in my earlier post regarding my diy 2 X 20watts cfl bulbs and it growing right under the bulb area only.
its pretty hard to find the right parts and diy to add 3 cfl bulbs so adding cost and everything i thought this could be better option.

i'm mostly low light plants in my 20gal.
is this bulb HO as i'm dosing excel and macro algae only so looking for this kind of hood with NO light.

but i'm thing to have around 40watts total .....
is this good to go or should i replace bulb or anyother option would be great to hear.

thanks

That's a power compact fixture, not the same as T5HO at all. It'll work fine tho, but you'd probably have to raise it some or else start a fert regimen and co2 ^^
Coralife PC lights don't have good reflectors. They don't allow enough room at the sides of the bulb for light from the back to get out to the aquarium. If that tank is 16 inches high you will probably barely have enough light for low light plants.
Hi Hoppy,
thanks much.
in my case any t5 hood like
http://www.bigalsonline.com/Fish_Li...es-Double-Linear-Strip-Lights.html?tc=default

will work but only total 28watt output.
i'm looking around 40watt output.

am i limited or stuck to build diy with 3 or 4 cfl bulbs.

or any other you recommend to buy online....
glad to hear.
thanks

No light "outputs" any watts. It uses watts to operate the light. It outputs lumens, or, at some specific distance lux or PAR. If you want to use 40 watts for your lighting, and I can't imagine a reason to do so, you could just plug in a reading lamp, with a small bulb in it, and use it to read by while the tank is lit :icon_smil
found one light with hood.
it has 2X24watts T5 HO lights in it.

in my case with excel dosing will it be too much light.

as i couldn't find T5 NO ones unless i change the light.....

whats ur suggestion glad to hear.

thanks
Where are you located? I just got a 24" NO coralife from Exotic in south sac. on Friday.
