So I was doing some clean up and tucked away in the back I find this rotting leaf from a plant I can't make out what it is because it is so broken down.

But to my surprise I find some new kind of plant growing from this decaying leaf, not really sure how this is possible but I like it :) Free plants from dead leaves! woohoo ;)

here are some pics. I now have it attached to a small rock and put out into some open light to see how it grows.

any thoughts on the id of this?

thanks!

Yup java fern plantlets. Let them grow on the dead leaf until they pop off on their own then tie them to decor/rock/wood (do not plant rhizome (what leaves and roots grow from) in the substrate or it will rot and die)). Its a good hardy low light low maintenance plant (can be kept in high tech set ups too).

cool stuff, I currently don't have any java fern in my tank other than these new plants so I am excited to get some more variety :)
