Connect tubing to pvc

I'm looking to connect my canister filter tubing to PVC.

I'm sure someone has did this before. One of my tanks are about the same height as one of my canister filter so I thought I could cut the tubing and then connect PVC to run the PVC parallel with the tank.

My filter is a Rena XP3/Large canister.

Would you get PVC that is smaller then the ID of the tubing and use a clamp or larger PVC then tubing and seal it somehow?

Why not use 3/4 pvc, a threaded end cap with a barbed fitting that fits the size tubing from your canister.
Get a barb fitting that fits your tube snugly and put a hose clamp on it just to be sure. Something like this, it's a slip-barb so it'll glue right onto PVC pipe:

That's what I was thinking the ID of the tubing from the canister is 5/8". Mostly everything I see is 1/2" or 3/4".
