I would've gone with the semi-automatic system at DrsF&S, but that's another story.

If it's an aluminum tank, it's around market price.

But there's something you have to consider. Are you going to refill it, or are you going to swap it out? Will it be visible, or under a stand? If you don't care what it looks like, that's an OK price. But if it's going to be visible, you should buy a new shiny tank.

I agree with epic, that system on DrsF&S is way overpriced. Individual parts can be bought for much cheaper....

Back to subject though. The welding shops around me only do swapping, so no point in me getting a new shiny, aluminum tank. Sounds about right for pricing though, a (filled) 20lb tank cost me $120.

Another place to look for aluminum (nice shiny ones and light weight) would be at beverage/beer brewery places. Ex. BeverageFactory : This one is close to me and a 10lbs tank goes for $80. Of course this option is if you can find a "fill while you wait" = no swap of tanks.

Also, check out Craig's List. Someone may be selling tanks in your area. http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/ny

thanks for everyone help.

I just found this tank:
http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/tanks/co2/C10.shtml

Do you think this tank is right for the system? Can you put the tank horizontally? I don't think this 20" tall tank is going to fit under my stand. I really like the shiny aluminum plus I think one of the local supply do allow refill while you wait.

Can anybody tell me your experience with the DrsF&S's CO2 system? Where/how can I get a better deal with the money?

thanks again!

I was lazy and picked up a 20lb tank (Aluminum) at PraxAir, $120 (and this is CA). Filled. Its a swap system, so you may get a different tank every time, but you do own it so if you get a new shiny one (happens) you can simply find another place that does refills.

Tanks can not be run laying down. They must be upright.

Take a look at the AquariumPlants.com "Best" regulator. I've had good luck with that regulator. The DF&S system is rather expensive. I personally don't run a pH controller on my freshwater tank (yet anyway), and use my Fluval canister filter as my CO2 reactor (works well enough for me).

Yea, big companies like AirGas and PraxAir are a bit pricier. I got my 15# tank on eBay for $70. Filled was $85 or so.

There's a semi-automatic system on DrsF&S for $100 I think? Comes with a regulator, a reactor, and a diffuser. Not a bad price for it, considering the Azoo regulator is about $75-$80 already. The fully automatic system is a waste of money.

You might also want to look at aquariumplants.com's tanks: http://www.aquariumplants.com/product_p/t.htm I havent yet seen any cheaper aluminum 20 pounders. Also shipping from them is cheaper than beveragefactory due to location. You might want to factor shipping rates to since locations vary.
Thanks I looking to buy the 2 1/2 lb size and that is the cheapest I have seen.

try this site http://www.co2-canisters.com they have best price i've found yet & all are nice shiny alum tanks with right valves for easy hookup:icon_cool i just got mine 5lb for like -$55.00 they also have everything else u could possibly think of right now they have a aluminum 20lb tank with brass valve& carrying handle for $97
You might want to look at my post 2 posts up - its cheaper (well depending on shipping and your location). But thanks for bringing that place up - I saw they had good price 35#ers once and I havent been able to find it since... think I know what I am ordering.

[edit] To central ohio there shipping prices are higher, $6 more on a 20# compared to aquariumplants.com I am sure this will vary by location though.
