I would not try to close your DIY Co2 at all. It will build up pressure and than you could have a big mess on your hand. Just run a air stone when the lights are turned off.
Agreed. You really don't have any control over diy. One huge con to it vs pressurized. If you did close it it wouldn't be nice upon opening the container the next day unless you discharge outside of the tank first. There would be quite a bit of co2 built up overnight in which will be wasted once you open it.
