co2 regulators

is there any reason that you could not use a standard regulator meant for an oxy-acetylene torch or one that is meant for co2 injection at a bar. these seem to be a bit cheaper than those labeled as planted tank regulators

also is there any draw back in using a air stone with my reactor its creating substantially smaller bubbles which should allow for better absorption in to the water colum

thanks

Many people us different types of air stones as you do with no problem, it does however depend on the size tank you have with that tiny air stone. As long as your beer regulator is intended for co2 applications its ok. You will need a quality needle valve, solenoid, tubing, check valve, and bubble counter.
Then you would be set.

The beer/soda regulators will work just fine. The oxygen/acetylene regulator is probably threaded differently and won't fit onto a co2 tank.
A bare beer regulator is cheaper than an aquarium regulator. But there is a BIG reason for that.

A beer regulator is just that. A regulator.

An aquarium regulator also has some or all of the following.

Solenoid - Most have
Needle valve - All should have
Check valve - Some do, some don't
Bubble counter - Some do, some don't
Welcome fellow geologist. In my discipline, i use regulators all the time, especially O2 (i do groundwater remediation / oxygen injection). I can tell you that it is possible to get it to work mechanically as fat as fitting stuff together. I have to rig stuff all the time. But why? For ~150 you can get the stuff thats designed specifically for the purpose with all the stuff rex was talking about. Its worth the money.
thanks for all the input i think i will just go with a purpose built system
