What pressure should a cylinder read right after it's been filled? If it matters, it's a 5# steel cylinder. Thanks.

It varies but usually around 900.

I have a 2.5 lb that stays at 850psi and a 20 lb that's usually at 1000psi but fluctuates down to 950

It depends greatly on the ambient temperature in the room (or more specifically, the air touching the cylinder).
I just had my 10 lb'er filled a couple weeks ago and it was reading around 700 psi with a room temp around 66-70F. I've never seen it read 900 or 1000. My previous tank read about 700-800 for almost 2 yrs and then it shot down to zero in about a day or two.
