Co2 Ceramic Diffuser Reactor

Hi all,

Purchased a CO2 ceramic diffuser reactor made by ISTA.

I installed it inline to my eheim pro 4+ 600 canister filter.

Since i hooked it up and turned everything back on, im unsure if it is doing anything for the tank as there are bigger bubbles that come out of my spray bar. The co2 bubbles go straight to the surface and pop.

When i had just the co2 hooked up to a ceramic diffuser, i had tiny tiny bubbles all over the tank. Now i just have bubbles that are bigger but arent traveling through the tank.

Im at just over 1bps in my bubble counter.

Kind of getting cold feet with the whole reactor thing.

Sounds like the bubbles are getting blown through the reactor.

You could try reducing the flow through the reactor to see if it improves. A bypass is fairly easy to DIY and you can control the flow through it that way. Just an option.
Have the same filter on my 55gal. Had the same problem w/ microbubbles and a different type atomizer..
You are using the ista w/ both a ceramic diffuser and the paddle spinner inside..was looking at that one..
Doesn'tseem like it solved the problem..

I have/had 2 different Ehiems that didn't/don't have that problem w/ atomizers.

Not sure if it just a speed of flow issue or the larger hoses..
Since I was getting bubbles anyways and my atomizer had other "issues" I just, for now, switched to an in tank disc..

Only problem with reducing the flow through the reactor is then im reducing the water flow from my only filter in the tank. Thank you for the suggestion though

Yes i am considering just going back to a in tank diffuser as im not confident in this reactor at all

Hey Guys,
Have you guy considered just putting the MIXMAX reactor-diffuser in the tank? It works unbelieveably well. By passing the whole canister filter altogether. A lot easier as well when troubleshooting. Since I stared doing it and powering the impellar inside the reactor-diffuser with a 210GPH pond pump, there are all sorts of beautiful little co2 bubbles showering my plants and staying in the tank. Just a thought. I see a lot of people struggling with the canisters and wonder, maybe I'm missing something? Then again, what do I know?

Beefy Fish, I noticed your heater sensor is close to your heater? Is that right? Have you considered placing it on the other side of the tank from your heater (assuming I am seeing correctly).

Cheers,
DD

I never even thought about the sensor. Yes i will be moving it to the other side. Thank you for pointinf that out to me. Ill do some research on the mixmax and see how much they are. Thanks again!

yes i could try a bypass to reduce flow. Good idea, i will look into the fittings for the eheim 20mm hosing

Does the orientation of the reactor have an effect on how it functions?
