Hello all,
I just set up a 40 gallon long and decided to go with 1 inch of eco complete capped with another inch of white pool filter sand. The sand has been in for 3 days now (I rinsed it several times before adding it) and there is still a white cloudiness to the water. Is there anything that I can do to expedite the settling of this cloudiness? Is it a possibility that I didn't rinse thoroughly and will now have to do water changes?
Any advice is appreciated

Water changes should take care of it though, or time, or filtration. Alternatively, you could try turning off all of the circulation for a day or so and seeing whether the white stuff settles, assuming you haven't put fish in there yet.

I try to be careful recommending chemicals and this one has done well for me. I've resorted to this one several times without any problems being caused by using it.
Crystal Clear by Aquarium Products works well for clumping suspended dusts causing them to collect better in the filter batting. Box stores and even Waldo World carry it. Small bottle treats 440g.

Hey,
thanks for the advice. I think I'll try some water changes and if that doesn't work I'll pick up some of that clarifying product when I get the chance.

Be sure to clean off the glass/acrylic as it tends to collect there as well adding to the cloudiness factor. I found using filter batting alone in a second HOB filter running full blast helps. Adding that product wkndracer suggests is a great idea.

I have a small HOB just for emergency or extra filtration when in crunch situations.

Try cutting a piece of paper towel in half and placing it around your filter intake. Change it every every half hour for about 3 hours and you should be fine. Worked for me.
