I am seeking substrate, but clear glass, pebbles, etc. Looking for something with the particle size of gravel, but in clear glass.

Anyone know of a source?

Won't that show off the crap on the substrate worse than white sand does?

Do you plan on only using it as a top layer? Because if all you have is clear glass substrate, your plants are not going to do well. The fish waste will probably show more too.

Craft stores like hobby lobby sell glass pebbles in a variety of colors. They are often in the floral section.

Edit: These will likely be too big for what you want, but they might have something smaller.
