hey guys, i did a search and read that acetone was the best thing to use to remove the residue left by the silicone. would the acetone fingernail polish remover work for this? or would even the acetone free polish remover be harsh enough to remove it if i weren't able to get my hands on the acetone one?

I'd look for acetone I didn't have much luck with the acetone free stuff it seemed like elbow grease did all of the work.
There's not reason to go acetone free (except maybe smell). Acetone is not bad for you, except if you drink it. While the smell is annoying, it's not a big health risk.
okay thanks. i figured that would be the response. :)

Acetone fingernail polish remover will work, but it definitely is much weaker than the straight stuff you can buy at the hardware store.

As the name implies, acetone free polish remover does not have acetone. Since acetone is the best thing to use to remove silicone residue, acetone free polish remover would not be the best thing to use...
