I am setting up a NPT and want to soak/clean the Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix and Pool Filter Sand that I bought.

I live in an apartment, and access to a spigot and hose is not convenient.

Can I (carefully) clean them in my bathtub without worrying about clogging the drain?

Any other ideas for what I could do?

I think so. For play sand, I use a bucket, add the sand and then stick it under the faucet in my tub. I sit on the side of the tub and swish it with my hand. Then after, I let it settle for about 5-10 seconds and then pour out the cloudy water, repeat. Rinse repeat.

I live in a house on a septic tank and there is very little sand that goes down the drain and I'm not worried about it clogging anything up. I did this today actually. I have cleaned it outside, but its too cold right now!

I can't comment on the dirt because I haven't done that in the tub......yet!

I'd be careful. I'm not too experienced with this as all my experience comes from setting up one 2.5 gallon tank.

Just make sure it's in something. I got a little bit of sand just into the tub itself and couldn't get it out. I don't know if it's the shape of my tub but they wouldn't go down the drain. I had to get as much as I could out with a wet paper towel.

My kitchen sink got clogged from washing out the bin I had used to hold the potting soil.

I'm sure you can do it I'd just be careful.

Also take anything I say with a grain of salt because I'm a newbie.
