With cichlids being one of the largest families of fish you can find a cichild to fill almost every niche.

There are 100's of cichlids that would work fine in a 18 gallon tank.

Personally I would try some of the smaller shell dwellers.

I agree with rex, and plan on setting up a tank with some multis or brevis in the future. Just beware that, like macclellan said they might be tough to keep with plants. Lots of digging from what I've heard.

I'd stick to german/bolivian rams, apistos, or even kribs. They seem to be more compatable with the water parameters of a planted tank.

Right. Anubias, Javan moss and Javan fern are your best bet for Tangs.:proud:
