934 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Max Mårtenson
I have a 3 week old dirted lowtech tank 100 Gallon ( 48 x 20 x 24 inches )
Currently im running some fluval fixture with 2x 54W T5 tubes, seems to be woorking okay.
My light fixture is really old and on its last tune.

I want to go for LED when i buy new ones because of less power etc.
But i have no idea what to get or how meny. So a total noob here.
bveen looking at Finnex Planted+ but will one of them be enough light for a 100 gallon tank etc. ( https://www.amazon.com/Finnex-Planted-Automated-Aquarium-Controller/dp/B00U0HN1DG )

plants im running is ;
Val
dwarf sag
Anubias
Javamoss
Swords
crypts

all help welcome.

that light is pretty good. i like how it can change colors like sunset/sunrise. has a fancy remote too. I would say 1 is good for the type of plants you have. 2 is stepping it into high light.
Finnex 24/7 is fine.. Recommend 2 if you want good front/back top/bottom coverage..

On 24/7 mode it shouldn't be too strong for the tank (2)..
PAR @ 20" could reach 90 in the overlap zones.. but it is only for a brief time..
Having 2 does give the "high tech" option of staggering start times to get a larger "full" time..

If this is too much you can run one 24/7 mode and set the other in static mode (tailoring color/output) so as to not
boost the PAR too much but give more even coverage..
Of course if you do that then there are cheaper options such as the Finnex stingray. Keep in mind you can't adj. it though..

Most strip types lights are not "the best" for wider tanks.. i.e 24".. well not alone.

To be honest the Fluval plant 2.0 is a bit more accommodating..i.e more than one schedule choice.. but doesn't have any color tweaking available.
Current planted plus pro is the most flexible light.
With the integrated 24-hour timer function, you can also program what time to start a gradual sunrise, gentle sunset and both the color spectrum and intensity of your daylight and moonlight.

Pretty certain that one of them would be pretty far away from high light. 46W of led lighting for a 24inch 100G tank will not be enough for most setups. You would most likely end up with less usable light than your current T5 setup. Two of them would match your current setup with a bit of overhead. If that is an issue you can always dim them down a bit.
Reading some reviews on amazon for finex24/7 and for finex ray2

24/7 and ray2 .

They both have some scary reviews. Are finex making okay products?
Another option could be the Fluval Planted 2.0, 3 years warranty on it.

Michel.
If i would use this instead i would still need 2 of them right?

Meh more like Asia than specifically China :p

Max: Yeah I would say you would need two of the 46W ones. Both for power and for a more even spread of the light.

I am not sure, especially if you tank is 24" high you may need two. You can begin with one and see plant's response.

Michel.
