Chem-marin stop parasite juice. I've seen it used for saltwater (somewhat mixed reviews) but for freshwater I haven't found many "testimonials".

Also if used exactly "what level" of buffer capacity does one need?

Yep, got that part. also says it could crash your pH if your tank is not "properly" buffered..
What the heck is "properly" buffered?

Coral sand in your filter?
and does it "actually" work?

It says you need to moniter the ph and buffer as necassary. I could not find a hard value.

Bump: If you're worried maybe you should the Kordon product. It is cheap, proven, and user friendly.
