cheap tank idea

I was wondering if you guys think there would be enough room in a 55 gallon barrel cut length wise to breed shrimp and plants.

Sure. I'd cut rectangle openings in it instead though. Then you have a "center brace" to keep it from bowing out as much.

Just be careful what the barrel was used for prior. Do you know it's history or are you buying new. Also be aware the lining in the barrels have a tendency to flake off over time.
