Anyone use any of the cheap IR thermometer guns? Like the ones on eBay or Amazon for $9-17?

Also eBay has some little IR thermometer pens and car-remote-looking devices. Anyone tried these?

Just wondering how accurate the cheap ones are despite seeing expensive IR guns.

I race rc cars and I have seen a wide variety of temp guns.
Most agree the cheap ones are accurate within a few degrees. I have a 29 dollar harbor freight version it seems to do the job.
We have high dollar Flukes at work. They are spot on......

That reminds me, I actually have an expensive one, I never used... A client bought it for me to help with an assignment. ( I never asked for it). should get some batteries and see how well it works for this.

I bought one similar to this one:
I've had it for several years and found it to be very accurate (within a degree or so). I've verified it's accuracy using a standard thermometer to check the temp of a tank, then use the gun. It's always right on.
