I know it's macro algae... but this particular one looks different from the other varieties down here in FL. Hoping someone has an idea.
Mysterious Chara (ID Me!):
Typical FL Chara ("muskgrass"):
The stems and needles are rough to the touch, i.e. calcium carbonate. Does not smell a lot like sulfur though, even though I found it floating in a sulfur spring... it reminds me of the red cherry plant (chara fragilis) found in sulawesi lakes:
