I have a 20 gallon tank with easy maintenance plants (Vals, crypts, some moss, etc.) For the last few years I have been using a Coralife 65w 6700k CF straight pin light. I have not used CO2 or any special fert regiment for the last 2.5 years. Plants have thrived.

Today the CF light died. I was looking through my supplies for a replacement and found a 55w 5400k CF light that I had ordered as a back-up a long time ago.

How quickly do plants adjust to new lighting? Will there be a significant impact on the plants if I suddenly change the lighting from 65w 6700k to 55w 5400k? Should I just shell out a few bucks and go buy the same light?

Mmm I'd say try out the backup and see if it works out for you. I think the plants will be okay with it.
