I did a search and couldn't find much.

I am thinking about buying a canister filter (ca1000) by Catalina. However, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with their filtration products? Are they any good? Should I cough up the extra 20-50 dollars and get another eheim?

I love their lights but would pay extra for an eheim. reliable and plenty of spare parts available.

Thanks. I just wondered, you can get higher powered catalinas for less money, but if they aren't worth it, I know ehiem is .

The little extra you spend on a good quality, and readily available eheim outweighs the saving for the catalina for sure.

For $20 or so extra, buy the Eheim.
Multi decade old Eheims are still running and parts are available.

If you were looking at the Chinese knock offs, at half the price of an Eheim, I'd caution you about parts. Particularly the impeller shaft. Recently I've read that hobby shop 3/32" metal rod works in some of the knock offs - after the ceramic shaft breaks.
