Hi:red_mouth. I'm new to the forum and trying to decide on a carpet plant that will do okay in hard water (GH - 12 degrees). I have a 75 gallon tank with 4X65 PC lights. Any suggestions?

my tapwater's GH is 12 dH.
i can grow hairgrass, tenellus, marsilea pretty well.
My tap has a GH of 18, and I was also able to do marsliea, tenellus and Riccia. Although Riccia will convert to submerged, and have to be replaced over time.
Oh great! That's very encouraging:icon_smil!
Living in Los Angeles hard water is somewhat of a problem. But not for Glosso. I thought I yanked out all of mine about 6 months ago but it keeps coming back stronger than ever. I caved and now have a Glosso carpet once again.

In reality though the hard water here is not very prohibitive to growing plants. I guess some plants will struggle but most do quite well once they adapt.

So far, I've really only found 1 (Granted I haven't look too hard), but my biggest disappointment was that I never got Tonnias to grow well (no surprises there).

Agreed, no surprises. ;) Haven't had much luck with them either.
18 dH GH? you make me feel lucky...
Know what? It's not as bad as all the old reading would have you think. Working well without fighting the water. My plants grow well. Biggest problems are stalactites I grow from the from the glass canopies. :hihi:

Amen - what a crusty mess!
