I just read this article on popular science, and I think these sponges could have big uses in aquarium filters in the future, as the sponges absorb an absurd amount of organic matter while not absorbing any water. Right now I guess they're being developed to clean up oil spills.

It's very expensive though. Not practical for the aquarium or even cleaning up oil for that matter.

just googled the price. it's $25/gram.
