Any filter can provide good water quality if it is properly sized for your tank, and if you maintain it. From what you say, it sounds like silent operation is a primary concern... Which of the filters you have used is more silent?

Ok I'm ordering a new FX4 due to the quietness of my unit and I wont have to spend anymore cash on a new heater and I can get one for $225 Canadian! my xp4 that i have already is on use on my other tank!
