I'm looking to upgrade my existing HOB filter and get a canister filter for my 10 gallon tank. I had pretty much decided that I was going to get an Eheim 2213, but odds are that I will be breaking this tank down to set up a 29 gallon tank in about a year. While I realize that's far away, I was wondering if there was a canister out there with a flow that could support a 29 gallon but serve a 10 gallon for now. Perhaps with a flow control valve, or maybe I would have to mod it, or use sponges over the intakes?
Anyone able to suggest a canister with a flow control that is actually effective? Or should I just forget this, get the 2213 for the 10 gallon, and purchase a new canister when I eventually set up the 29 gallon?

I've never had a canister except for a Toms Rapids Mini (It leaked and I hated it), so this is new for me. Thanks!

I did something similar when I moved a couple years ago and upgraded from a 10gal to a 29gal. I bought an XP2 a few months before I moved and switched it into the 10gal. It worked pretty well, with not an overwhelming amount of flow in the tank. There's a flow control right before the spray bar. If that's still a lot of flow, you could direct the spray bar holes upward or back into the glass.
